/>

<span class=Dare to Share Featured Frugal Blogger for this week is Shellie Deringer, who writes the blog Saving with Shellie. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Shellie twice “in real life,” so I’m very pleased to feature Shellie, who works very hard on her blog, as the first experiment participant. Shellie is also featured on the Frugal Map representing the state of Texas.

When & why did you start blogging?

My New Year’s resolution for 2009 was to challenge myself to cut our grocery bill from $50 a week down to $40. My goal was to only spend $40 on all food, toiletries, household goods. I wanted to use my grocery savings to build up a 6-month emergency fund. I started the blog to help keep me accountable.

What motivates you to continue blogging?

Comments. I love the comments I get from readers saying how couponing has helped them through tough financial times. But it doesn’t even have to be that deep. I love the comments when they laugh at something ridiculous I posted or when they help one another with more complications deal scenarios. The comments are what keep me going.

First money-saving blogs you discovered?

Your favorite frugal post.

Favorite Post I’ve written: I did a “How Much Should I Pay” post a while ago and I really enjoyed writing it. It was fun to actually commit to the lowest price I will pay for different items. I also got a bunch of positive feedback from readers who were able to use it as a jump start for their own price lists.

Favorite Post I’ve read: I love when bloggers get their husbands to do posts about being married to a frugalista. It’s always funny to me to read their perspective on the lifestyle we’ve created for them

Best Frugal Tip in One Sentence.

Saving doesn’t have to mean sacrifice.

Craziest thing you’ve done to save a buck.

Since in my mind saving doesn’t have to mean sacrifice, I often translate that into sacrifice of time. I don’t do anything too crazy because I don’t want to sacrifice myself or my time just to snag a bargain. But there was one time I went to Target to pick up a prescription. I knew I would be back in the area the next day but we needed the prescription that evening. Well, as I waited for my prescription, a Target employee clearance priced 4 bottles of Renu contact solution to $2.08. I knew I had coupons at home and I was almost out of contact solution. So I took the 4 bottles and I hid them somewhere else in the store so I could come back and get them the next day when I had my $2 off coupons. They were still there behind the paper towels when I came back so I snagged them for $.08 per bottle.

I'll admit I've hidden stuff so I can come back and use my coupon! Glad to know I'm not the only one!
